Kiewit provided project development services, including: site plan drawings, heat balances, water balances, one line diagrams, and permitting support for a 200 MW simple cycle facility adjacent to a 1x1 450 MW combined cycle facility on the same site. The project aims to satisfy area demand for peaking power and variable load from renewable energy sources.
Indianapolis Power and Light Company (IPL) provides electric service to more than 470,000 users in the area and surrounding communities, with Petersburg and Harding Street Plants, the company’s two biggest plants, accounting for a majority of that generation. In order to meet EPA Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) compliance, IPL is retrofitting five units at these sites with new environmental control equipment.
Kiewit teamed with the owner early in the Langley Gulch Power Plant development to create a baseline, self-build proposal that was evaluated against outside competitors. Kiewit worked closely with the owner to develop a cost-competitive project.
Kiewit was selected by Public Service Electric & Gas (PSEG) for engineering and procurement services on the Northeast Grid Reliability Project. The project included upgrading existing tranmission lines, converting substation configurations and adding underground circuit to increase capacity while reducing transmission system congestion.
To decrease the cost of hydroelectric power and increase the demand for service, Kiewit completed this bid-build contract to expand the Healey Falls Generating Station. Located about 15 kilometers north of Campbellford, the generating station includes a new unit in a spare bay inside the existing hydroelectric power plant once complete.
InterGen selected Kiewit to provide owner's engineering services for their new 230 MW gas-fueled combined cycle project in Queretaro, Mexico. Kiewit's services included: detailed review of documentation developed by the EPC contractor; support of monthly project reviews; tracking contractor submittals and schedule performance; on-site oversight during construction and commissioning; and owner's representative for all aspects of plant performance testing and acceptance
The Kiewit team consisting of partners from Eastern District, Kiewit Power Constructors, Kiewit Power Engineers, and Mass Electric was awarded the contract to engineer, procure, construct, and start up the Homer City AQCS Project Units 1&2.
The Kiewit and Henkels & McCoy team (Kh&m) was selected to construct the New Jersey portion of the new Susquehanna to Roseland Electric Reliability Transmission Project.
Using an innovative approach, the project team chose to reuse existing ESP steel for the J.T. Deely Unit 2 SCR Retrofit Project instead of opting for demolition. This decision reduced the project construction schedule while minimizing disruption to plant operations.
Kiewit completed this design-build contract to engineer, procure, construct and commission the new 600 MW simple cycle power plant at Haynes Generating Station with six GE LMS100s. The project eliminated the use of ocean water for cooling.
